Arval promote road safety

Next week fleet and fuel management company Arval is hosting a “first of its kind” event for local businesses to promote road safety.

The event is being run in conjunction with Wiltshire Fire and Rescue on 15th July and will be free for any local company to attend.

Young drivers are normally the target audience for the fire service, however this event will be the first time that they have worked with a corporate company to raise the profile of road safety. It will provide local business representatives with crucial information on the legal risks that they and their drivers face, the road safety initiatives that Arval has pioneered and how others can follow suit, how Wiltshire Fire and Rescue can support local companies and the financial benefits of investing in road safety.

The Government led national road safety forum RoadSafe will also be attending the event to talk about their Driving for Better Business Programme, a venture that Arval has been an early adopter in, along with high profile companies that include BT, Tesco and T-Mobile. Wiltshire & Swindon Camera Partnership and the local Borough Council will also be providing an update on their road safety initiatives.

Tracey Young, Fleet and Road Safety Manager at Arval comments, “We have spent a great deal of time and effort on reducing the road risk of our drivers and our customers’ drivers and we want to share this story with others. Road safety is crucial in terms of staff wellbeing, company reputation, cost management and meeting legal obligations. As well as keeping your employees and other road users safe, improving your road safety performance provides tangible benefits to the business, especially important in the current economic climate.”

She adds “This event pulls together a range of road safety experts and we feel that the content will be both relevant and useful to local businesses in understanding their legal obligations. Most importantly, its powerful messages are guaranteed to create a lasting impression on the day and inspire companies to take the safety of their staff whilst they drive for work very seriously.”

Ian Hopkins, Road Safety Development Manager for Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, said that the partnership with Arval was most welcome: “We already target young drivers and those in the military with our Safe Drive Stay Alive road safety campaign, but working with Arval has given us the opportunity to get the message to a far wider audience. We thank them for their support, and look forward to meeting other Swindon businesses on 15 July.”
