Swindon based Innovation IT Support are warning small and medium sized businesses to start backing up their data.
A recent study by Insight UK found that close to 30% of SMEs are not safeguarding essential data against loss, corruption or theft.
James Matthews MD of the company said: “It seems many businesses are put off because of perceived complexities or worries about security but for the majority it seems to come down to a lack of time.”
However, backing up data is absolutely crucial for business owners. Data loss could be disastrous, especially in difficult economic times like these when they cannot afford expensive recovery solutions. Moreover, it has never been easier to transform an SME IT system. Nowadays, there are lots of easy to manage systems which are highly secure and robust. A recent study by Google showed that one in 14 hard drives fail when they are over only 2 years old. So businesses need to be prepared and look at the options out there; online backup facilities, external hard drives and tape backups. Since it can be confusing it is also often best to speak to someone who can recommend how to back up correctly.
It’s not just businesses that have to be concerned. All the current evidence suggests that current home users don’t do enough to protect their photos, tax records and personal documents.
Said James: “I’m astonished how few customers understand they could so easily lose them all if their computer fails and don’t use any type of back up storage solution.
His advice? “Look into your options and if you are unsure what the best option is for you call a local expert like ourselves and get some help. Either way, get your files backed up as soon as possible if you aren’t currently doing so”.
