No house crises in the Cotswolds

The number of cash buyers registering with Cotswolds property specialist Butler Sherborn has risen by 51 per cent during the period January to June 2009 compared to the same period in 2007, before the market took a downturn.

Sam Butler, senior partner at Butler Sherborn, says: “We’ve more buyers now than before the market slumped. Although the current financial climate is not great, people still want to buy in the Cotswolds.

“The only problem is we simply don’t have enough properties to sell. There is still much caution amongst sellers when actually this is a prime time of year when they really should be bringing their properties to the market. The Cotswolds will always be very desirable and our buyers are interested in everything from chocolate box cottages through to country houses and large estates.”

The number of cash buyers coming to Butler Sherborn from London has increased by 59 per cent in the first six months this year, compared to the same period in 2007, and the number from Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire has increased by 58 per cent.

“We recently had a successful and interesting time at the ‘Move to the Country Show’ in London. We had a constant stream of potential buyers, with the Cotswolds proving the most popular area to move to. While many were cash buyers, we had more letting requests than usual, with several people wanting to ‘try before they buy’.

“We have the buyers, so I would encourage all sellers to come and speak to us as soon as possible; this is the best time to put your house on the market.”
