The Swindon office of Alder King, the South West’s leading commercial property advisors, has leased nine shops already this year. Lettings have taken place in Old Town, Swindon, Wootton Bassett, Marlborough and Highworth.

Alison Williams, senior surveyor at Alder King said: “We have witnessed a wide range of enquiries from all sorts of businesses including the expansion of a specialist reptile retailer, a dance studio, a gentleman’s outfitters, a delicatessen and a sandwich shop.

“The local retail market has demonstrated to us that it is far from dead.

“There has been a lot of activity this year and we have also received a number of enquiries about properties that have since been let. Applicants are telling us that they have clear business plans and want to expand or establish themselves despite the tough economic conditions.

Polly-Ann Wicks of Dancewear Studio’s who has recently moved her business to 186 Victoria Road said: “We wanted a more prominent location in order to grow our business.
