Nationwide's £31,000 for charity

Individuals and groups from Nationwide Building Society were recognised at the Nationwide Employee Community and Environment Awards for collectively raising more than £31,000 for charity.
Of the 19 different awards, 11 went to Swindon-based employees.
The winners of various awards were:
The Microsoft team, who ran in three different marathons, a virtual cycle to France and organised sports days which helped them to raise £5,000 for the NSPCC.
The rugby team organised a tournament and also posed for a charity calendar which raised £3,740 for the Rowdy Bunch, a youth club which helps disabled teenagers.
June Griffiths-James, of direct services won a special achievement award.
After seeing an advertisement in the Advertiser, June sent parcels to the troops in Afghanistan and involved the Swindon call centre. She has so far sent more than a hundred parcels.
Steven Keogh, of print services has raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities via his drama group, the Emmanuel Drama Group.
Steve Thompson, Angie MacNaught and Terry Sargent, belong to a local theatre company and raise money every year for local charities.
This year they have helped to raise £1,300 for Brimble Hill special needs school.
Marc Noga, direct sales and Sean O'Rourke, IT, came up with the idea of a sport relief auction site, which allowed Nationwide employees to bid and submit lots for auction. This was developed and maintained between the duo in their spare time. In total £2,500 was raised.
Dave Measures of retail credit risk grew a variety of different beards and moustaches between January and March this year, each more ridiculous than the last. He raised £200 for Macmillan.
Keith Pickles, bonds & ISA department raised thousands of pounds through Rotaract, a group which promotes fundraising and voluntary work for 18 to 30 year olds. Due to his hard work and commitment, Keith has been elected as the National Chair for the UK.
Chris Palfrey, customer care team is a volunteer for Community First Responders and works with the local ambulance service.
He has also fundraised for the group by approaching local businesses for donations, enabling the charity to buy additional first responder kits.
George Bissett, technology development volunteers at his local college to support a lecturer teaching maths to students who did not pass their GSCE at school.
Despite the arrival of his new son, George has continued to give up much of his time to assist the students.
Kyle Henly, of information technology, cycles 14 miles to work every day regardless of the weather, in order to reduce carbon emissions, ease congestion and free up parking spaces.
Caroline Hallatt, Nationwide's head of community and environmental affairs, said: "Nationwide has always been an active supporter of the communities and the environment in which it operates."
