I'd like to start by congratulating Honda on the recent production of their 2,000,000th vehicle at the South Marston site - a real milestone that should be celebrated as a vote of confidence in Swindon's economy, especially as Honda have also recently announced that they will invest
£80 million in their Swindon plant.
I'd like to update you on the Swindon Strategic Economic Partnership (SSEP), which is really starting to motor now. We have a range of business-focussed events coming up, starting with the Employing Migrant Workers conference on April 1.
This SSEP-led event aims to highlight the pitfalls and positives to look out for when employing workers from overseas - what you need to know to keep on the right side of the law, and services that can assist in helping new overseas workers settle.
Another event is the Innovation Workshop at the Steam Museum on the morning of March 27, where companies will learn how to develop innovations through structured skills development and coaching.
Also, the Enterprise Days Workshops on April 25 intends to stimulate a culture of enterprise among Swindon's young people.
Other SSEP-driven events include a Financial Services/HR Forum as well as some internet tourism workshops.

These workshops form part of our wider tourism activities, where we are now working with Wiltshire County Council to produce a new tourism website and visitor brochure, which
will be available shortly. Check www.visitwiltshire.com for more details.
We are also kicking on with our Swindon attractions group which pulls together Swindon's tourism attractions, with the aim of co-ordinating their marketing activities.
Finally, SSEP is also overseeing the production of the Swindon Business Charter. This document will set out Swindon Borough Council's commitments to the business community and how we can provide the best possible service.
As well as committing the council to support local businesses, the charter challenges the business community to do their bit for the wider community.
So the SSEP is pushing ahead on a number of fronts - all designed to make Swindon the UK's top business location.
If you're interested in attending any of the events mentioned above, visit www.ssep.org.uk or call 01793 466169.
